Who’s ready for another Riley Blake Fabric Challenge? Our next fabric is from a new Riley Blake line called Sashing Stash designed by Eleanor Dugan, and it’s so incredibly versatile! Just take a look at this video to see some of the different ways you can use it!
Registration + Fabric Shipping
The sign up form will be emailed to members on Dec. 19 at 10am Eastern, 7am Pacific (here’s a handy time zone converter if you don’t live in those zones). As always, we have many more members than we have available fabric, so register early!
This time around, shipping will be slightly different than previous fabric challenges. If you are part of a local guild, your fabric will be shipped to your guild of choice, and your leadership team will distribute the fabric. If you are part of two guilds, please specify which guild you would like to receive your fabric from. If you are an individual member, your fabric will be sent directly to you. Fabric will ship in February 2016.
Rules + Guidelines
- You must make something quilted.
- You must use prints in the Sashing Stash collection. Participating members will receive a cut of the black and white variety fabric (3/4 yard), but you are welcome to purchase the fabric in additional colorways.
- You may use any Riley Blake solids in addition to the Sashing Stash fabric.
- If you don’t receive fabric through the MQG signups, you are still able to participate in the challenge! Simply purchase the fabric from your local quilt shop or one of these retailers.
- We encourage you to try an original design suited to the fabric! You may also use a pattern, but please tell us which one in your submission. (And always give credit to the designer when sharing images.)
- We will announce the top three winners in May 2016.Winners will receive a prize from Riley Blake Designs.

Questions?
If you have questions, please email info@themodernquiltguild.com.
Is this date correct?
The deadline for submissions is April 30, 2015,
Oops, should be 2016. Fixed!
I would prefer that challenges with limited fabric giveaways like this are done by lottery instead of first come, first served. It’s not always possible for people to be available at the exact time of sign ups and all paid, intetested members should be given a chance.
How would they do a lottery though, without sign ups? Not everyone in the MQG would participate. Maybe a better option is more advanced notice about opening sign ups. Then those interested could be prepared.
How does this work for guilds? Do the individual members have to sign up, or can a guild do a group sign up?
Each individual must sign up, but the fabric will be sent to the guild to distribute — but only to members who signed up for the challenge.
Thanks! That’s what I thought, but wanted to make sure.
didn’t get the email yet — is it coming? 🙂
I agree with Angela. Lottery would be more appropriate
To follow the rules, may we incorporate solids, as long as they are part of the Riley B. collection?
Yes, you are welcome to use Riley Blake solids in addition to the challenge fabric.
I also forgot to ask: are there minimum and maximum size restrictions?
Nope! No size restrictions.
Have not received the email with sigh up form and it’s way pas 7:00 am PT
we individual members of the country of Italy we feel somewhat disadvantaged on account of shipping timing. We partecipated to the previous challenge and fabric arrived to the members between two to four weeks later than to the us members and so did the other fabrics that had to be ordered online in the Us or Australia. Italians importers have long times and sometimes do not comply to our necessity since we are such a small country. We ask our Guild to be more International and take action on these challenges on behalf of the members who live outside the USA. We love to partecipate!
Roberta Sperandio and Daria Blandina, coordinators of the individual members of the Modern Quilt Guild in Italy
Thanks for letting us know! We are always working to improve the fabric challenge process for international members, and we will certainly think about this challenge moving forward.
Will we be notified via email that we entered in time to receive the fabric?
No, but we will close the sign-up form when we run out of fabric, so if you were able to sign up, you’re in!
In the form, should we enter our mailing address or our guild’s mailing address?
Enter your own address. We will coordinate shipping to the guilds 🙂
How/when will we know if we will be receiving the challenge fabric?
We will close the sign-up form when we run out of fabric, so if you were able to sign up, you’re in!
shoot – I just realized that I didn’t get an invitation 😦 I guess we can still participate if we can find the Riley Blake fabric????
Yes! But the challenge is still open, and the signup link is on Community — head there and you can still get fabric 🙂
When will the fabric be sent to the guilds?
The fabric is currently being shipped! You should receive it shortly.
Thank you!
I have not received the fabric for our Guild. Should I have by now?
Thanks, Kerry

Fabric will now be shipping in February. Sorry for the delay!

Is the sign up now closed, and is there an updated eta on when the fabric will be shipped? Thanks!
Yes, sign-ups are closed and the fabric is currently being shipped.
Is the guild going to receive yardage that must be cut prior to distribution?
The yardage will be precut!
The AMQG has not received the fabric yet. Did the shipping process finish?
Fabric will now be shipping in February. Sorry for the delay!
I am confused as to the additional solids we are allowed to use….only the coordinating solids ? (Red, blue, black, white etc…) OR any RB solid? Thanks for clarifying!
Any Riley Blake solids are allowed! We will be communicating this to everyone shortly.
I wanted to clarify if we were limited to just Riley Blake solids along with the sashing stash fabric in our quilt, or if we are free to use any other fabric we want along with the sashing stash? Thanks 🙂
Just Riley Blake fabrics, but you can use any solid!
Please clarify again: We can use any color of solid from any brand of fabric?
Thanks again.
You may use any solid from Riley Blake. No other fabric brands are permitted.
Hi, if there was a delay with the shipping of the fabric has the due date changed or is remaining at April 30 and Kona solids are good to use but keeping patterned fabric to the Riley Blake. Thanks.
We will be adjusting the deadline to accommodate the shipping time — more details will be emailed to participants soon! And you may use any solid as long as it is Riley Blake. No other fabric brands are permitted.
Hi, in past challenges I have noticed there is also information on the type of fabric that can be used for the backing and/or binding (when making a quilt) and I am not noticing it on this one. I don’t want to jump to the conclusion that those can be any fabric from any designer/fabric line so I just want to double check……are these components of the finished submission also required to be in a Riley Blake fabric from either the Sashing Stash or solids line…?
Thanks
Hi Kari, thanks for the note! You can use any Riley Blake solids for backing and binding along with the sashing stash. We’d love for the whole thing to be Riley Blake!

Hi, I wanted to submit my quilt, but there seems to be a system error coming up when I try to open the submission form. Any ideas?
Thanks!
I figured it out……I needed to have a “Submittable” account first!
