It’s finally here! The winners of the Riley Blake Fabric Challenge have been announced! Thank you to everyone for your submissions — we were blown away by this year’s entries! Staff members from the MQG and Riley Blake Designs worked together to choose the finalists and winners, and it was one of the most competitive challenges yet.
Winners for this year’s challenge are as follows:
1st Place: “X and O’s” by Susan Clay, Individual MQG Member
From the judges: “This quilt has an exciting use of color along with the interesting design placement and excellent use of the prints. It was beautifully quilted, and we especially liked the tidiness of the piecing, quilting and binding.”
2nd Place: “Tight Rope Walking” by Rita Scheiner, Individual MQG Member
From the judges: “This quilt has excellent fabric placement. We love the fussy cutting, which highlighted the Cottage Garden prints very well. The quilting added to the overall presentation of the whole quilt.”
3rd Place: “Ode to the Hex” by Mary Kay Fosnacht, Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild
From the judges: “This unique design has very interesting fabric placement. We appreciated the technically precise way it was quilted and pieced. We also like the way the quilting was used to accent the piecing.”
Honorable Mention: “Anything is Possible” by Caroline Press, Corvallis Modern Quilt Guild
From the judges: “We love the creativity and inspiration of this quilt. It embodies what the challenge was all about. Well done!”
This year we’re also announcing the finalists. Congratulations!
