The Modern Quilt Guild and FreeSpirit Fabrics is challenging you to see what you can create with the Habitat fabric line from Free Spirit designer Jay McCarroll. The challenges will be held locally through the individual Modern Quilt Guild chapters so contact your local guild for details.
Jay McCarroll will help to launch the MQG Habitat Challenge live at the June 21st meeting of the Philadelphia Modern Quilt Guild. In addition to announcing the challenge Jay will also discuss his career and more specifically the inspiration and design process for the Habitat fabric line. The Philadelphia MQG gives their speakers up to two hours to speak so it should be a fun presentation. If you would like to attend, contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP and to get more details. Space is limited so if you’re interested in attending contact them today!
Each guild will design their challenge locally to fit their members. In Philadelphia they’ve decided to just ask their members to create an original 12” block which will eventually be put into a quilt that will be donated for Japanese earthquake victims. The exciting thing is that Jay will select his favorite 3 blocks and those blocks along with directions will be published in a future Quilters Home Magazine!
But, the fun doesn’t stop there. Almost 50 guilds are participating in the Habitat challenges. To participate, check with your local Modern Quilt Guild to see if they are hosting a challenge. You can find the chapter closest to you in the sidebar on the main page of the Modern Quilt Guild site.
As a final note, Project Modern: Challenge 3 is almost coming to an end. If you haven’t submitted your entry yet, you have two weeks to get it in. The final day to submit it is June 30, 2011 so quilt away to get those entries done!
